Message from the Assistant Principal - Wellbeing and Community
As summer drew to a close, JPC was blessed with warm weather and a significant whole school event this week. On Tuesday our Year 11 and 12 students spent the day working through AST practice and skills programs. Year 12 then got to compete in the afternoon in a JPC style "amazing race" which aimed to promote team building and some friendly rivalry.
This week’s major event however was the College Athletics Carnival. For the first time, JPC utilised the AIS track and field facilities and it was tremendous to see so many students in attendance and participating in both the championship and spirit cup events. Congratulations to Mrs Darmody and her PE staff for their hard work in preparing for and facilitating such a tremendous event. Also to the many student-athletes who donned their house colours and ran, threw or jumped for glory.
Well done to team Kennedy for their win in the Championship and Teams Drexel and Kennedy for their joint winning of the Spirit Cup.

Pastoral Program
Towards the end of this term students will be completing a pastoral care program during mentoring on cyber safety. This will include a range of topics that are age appropriate. I would encourage families to use the esfatey commissioner resources which look at ways to help prevent and deal with harm caused by bullying, cyber abuse or image-based abuse.
Wellbeing
Week six of the term also means assessments are due for many students across the College. Students need to plan out their assessments. We know that many students have extensive co-curricular and work commitments during the week and academics can start to not be prioritised. All students should have their assessment in their diary. The section under the planner tab allows students to input their tasks and develop a timetable to ensure completion. If your child needs extra assistance there is support available to all students through their class teachers, their mentor or Wellbeing Leaders.

Teaching and Learning - Science
Science has started the year off with a bang (or, rather a pop!). Year 8 students have been immersing themselves in the world of science as a standalone subject, embarking on a journey of discovery about energy through experiments and writing practical reports.
Year 9 students are investigating biology, delving deep into the intricate mechanisms of the body's control systems; through Nervous and Endocrine control, unravelling the mechanisms our bodies use to keep stable.
Year 10 chemistry, students have hit the ground running. They seamlessly transitioned from year 9 revision to exploring the captivating realm of chemical reactions. Their journey is punctuated by engaging practical experiments, such as the pop and flame test, igniting sparks of fascination and igniting a passion for scientific inquiry.
Year 9 and 10 students are currently undertaking their ILT tasks.
Year 11/12 students have settled back into the expectations of senior school, having submitted their first assessment pieces for 2024. Year 11/12 students have also been offered the opportunity to undertake an internship at Questacon!
If you have any questions about what is happening in the Science faculty, please contact your child's teacher or me.

Moderation Day – Accredited Student Program
We are excited to share highlights from our recent skill-building program for Accredited Year 11 and 12 students that took place on Tuesday.
During the first session of the day, students had the privilege of attending a presentation by the Australian National University Tax Clinic on Tax for Beginners. This session served as a valuable introduction (or refresher) to their responsibilities as workers regarding tax obligations, deductions, and superannuation. Equipping students with these practical skills and essential knowledge is vital for their success in the workplace.
In the second session, students engaged in online courses provided by Fair Work Australia, focusing on Starting a Job and Managing Difficult Conversations in the Workplace. Upon completion, the students generated a certificate to include in their career’s portfolio.
Lastly, we were honoured to host Melinda Brady, a member of the JPC Careers community and an experienced Occupational Therapist, who shared insights on Workplace Health and Wellbeing. We extend our gratitude to Melinda for generously sharing her expertise with our students.
If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a part of the JPC Careers Community, you can follow this link to register https://forms.gle/Q3V9AEUFN2FqPiT69.
Thank you to our Accredited students who were engaged in their skill-building day.
