Message from Nic Whatman, Assistant Principal
As we finish the school year for our students it is a timely reminder of the great achievements and successes of our students. Over the past two COVID affected years which have posed many challenges and uncertain times in regard to our JPC student's education we have finally in 2022 had a full year of schooling. It has been great to see community events, celebrations, carnivals and assemblies return this year which has allowed us to redevelop our sense of community and connection between students, families and staff within the school. We are looking to build on this momentum and emphasis the importance of connection to the community in 2023.
Over the past weeks, students have been participating in enrichment activities designed to build students' skills and passion in individual subject areas. There have been numerous exciting activities happening around the school including cultural cooking classes, the making of bottle rockets as well as art pieces to name a few.
Today we celebrated the academic achievements of our students by recognising both academic awards and growth mindset awards. Along with these awards presented to students, the following awards were also presented to the following students;
- Most Proficient Student in Mandarin – Isaac Foster
- Achievement in Mandarin – Tilda Sailsbury
- Australian Maths Trust Certificate of High Distinction - Gabriel Fittler-Van Tilburg
- ‘Mission to Mar’ IMS Excellence Awards - James Cribben- Hughes and Piper Herring
This is a fitting way to cap off a fantastic year.
As we conclude the year we would like to thank all of our students, families, staff and broader community for all of the positive contributions throughout the year. As we move into our 10th Year of operation next year we are very much looking forward to returning next year which will be a celebration of St John Paul II College and the achievement thus far as well as a pivotal year in setting up the next 10 years. We endeavour to continue to grow our connection in the community and allow our students to flourish and learn in a rich learning environment.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to welcoming you back in 2023.
Kind Regards,
Nic Whatman

SOSE Enrichment this year has been an exciting experience for our JPC students, beginning with a full mock election for our Year 8s
Students spent the day creating their own political party, electing their leader, writing their aims and policies, creating a campaign advertisement and then voting for their preferences. The groups were highly engaged in the process and had an authentic experience of what voting will be like once they turn 18. It was great to see some possible future leaders really shine in their speeches, along with some well thought out policies.
Our Year 7s had an immersive historical experience of the designing and building of the Sydney Opera House. Throughout the day, they had design challenges using newspaper, virtual tours of the Opera House and a mock town meeting to discuss some of the differing view-points and possible barriers to building the Opera House. The day culminated with students designing and building their own mini model of the Sydney Opera House.
On the final day of enrichment, our Year 9 students had a series of challenges and quizzes based around their knowledge of Geography, History and the world around them. They began by creating their own ‘country’ and designing their country flag and national costume. They modelled these for the audience and explained the meaning behind the elements in their flag and costume. From then it was a race to solve the cryptic geography clues, create the ultimate history playlist and be crowned the final winner of the full SOSE trivia.
Our students were amazing in their creativity, engagement and enthusiasm.

Our Vocal teacher Jessica Horton had a concert for her many students last Friday evening. It was a huge success and it was wonderful seeing all our JPC students performing!
