Last week in Year 7 Food Technology the students learned how to use knives safely. The students were taught different knife techniques and they used this information to create fruit and vegetable faces.
These faces were created by Alanna Smyth.

Year 7 “Getting-to-know-you” Afternoon!
This week in the Mentor period the Year 7 students spent some time getting to know one another outside of their house and class groups. This was a great opportunity for them to meet new people, interact with their Year 11 House Captains, and learn more about how they fit into our Year 7 cohort at JPC.
We thank all of the Year 7 students for their enthusiastic participation in this day, and look forward to spending more time with them in Week 5!

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Lunch
JPC Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their mentors attended a “get-to-know-you” lunch on Wednesday the 16th of February. This event was a wonderful opportunity to initiate conversations between mentors and students about their individual cultural journeys and for students to begin to consider their cultural goals for 2022. Our 2021 Indigenous Leader, Mackenzie Lane, spoke to the group about her own personal journey and the goals that she has achieved, giving our younger students insight into setting achievable goals. Chaydin Reid, our new casual teacher, who has a wealth of knowledge about mentoring Aboriginal and Tosses Strait Islander students also shared his story with the group, encouraging the students to consider their own cultural journeys and links to their community.

Acting Contact Teacher for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Students
Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 of February is the Yr 11 Conference at JPC.
This is an opportunity for students to reflect, learn and spark motivation regarding studying and wellbeing in Yr 11 and Yr12.
All Y11 students are required to attend and be in full College uniform.
Lunch for Yr 11’s is being supplied on both days.
Yr 12 classes will continue as per the normal College timetable.

Moderation Day 1 - 1 March 2022
Moderation Day is an important day for teachers across the ACT to review and moderate the work of senior students. Moderation Day is a requirement for teachers to ensure grade comparability across the senior secondary sector. Moderation Day is a pupil free day (Yr 7-10 only) and no classes will be running.
Students from Years 7-10 are encouraged to use the day productively to work on learning tasks, assignments and general study. Students are discouraged from visiting 7-10 High Schools or Primary Schools, as their presence can prove very disruptive to the learning of these students.
All Y11 and 12 students completing a tertiary package will have an AST practise at JPC. Students involved in this are asked to arrive at 8:45 am for a 9am start in the College Hall.
All Y11/12 tertiary students are required to attend as these practice tests will be marked and feedback for improvement will be given to the students. This process is vital for experience and improving our AST results as a College and to set our students on a strong path to achieve their best ATAR results possible. Students are to be in full College uniform on the day and are able to make their way home after the trial is completed (1:45 pm). Please bring lunch/ snacks for the day and a bottle of water.
Students will need to bring a pen, highlighter, calculator and pencil.

Sport Spotlight
We had a number of students head to Coffs Habour to represent the ACT Cougars in the Junior Aussie Championships for Oz Tag last week.
Luka Paunovic, Rok van Dalen, Harry Greenwood, Yuri Hromow, Darby Veitch in the U15 boys, they had a fantastic tournament all playing extremely well but unfortunately didn’t make the finals.
Cooper Jenner in the U14 Boys team, who scored 4 tries and the team came 5th overall.
Olivia Sharp, Reese Paunovic, and Alina Roberts all represented the U14 Girls and Frankie Capello in the U13 Girls (absent on the day of the photo)
Oscar Kelly & Mikey Gerstenberg (both Year 7) are currently representing ACT Baseball in the Sydney Cup competition in preparation for the Australian Little League Baseball Championships later in the year. Mikey is captain of the team and starting pitcher and shortstop, with Oscar the starting catcher, so the boys form the key combination for the team. Good luck to both of you.
We want to celebrate all of our sporting heroes and their achievements – if you have been selected, are competing, are winning, or achieving please let me know and we can share that with our community.
Many thanks
Mrs Danni Jewell
Sports Coordinator
