As we conclude week 4 of term 4, our Year 11 and 12 students have been back at school (after the recent lockdown) for 3-4 weeks and our year 9 and 10s have started to settle back into a new ‘normal’ at JPC.
As the focus for Drexel House, this week, we decided to speak to some of our Year 12 Drexel students and gain an insight into how their transition back to on-site learning is going.
Elise Causer and Isabel Redman had many praises to sing about one of our Drexel teachers, Annie Daley. ‘Ms Daley is amazing!’, said Elise. The girls spoke about how Ms Daley supported them through lockdown by making Pastoral lessons fun and having daily guessing competitions. Isabel explained that the Drexel team have supported her return to campus and she is really enjoying being able to not only study in person but to add some social interaction to her day as well.
Another Year 12 Drexel student, Audrey Listler, said that "It has been nice to have the corridors a bit quieter these past few weeks but I look forward to having the juniors back on the campus as well". Audrey spoke about how she is really appreciative of having time with the Year 12 cohort and JPC staff and to re-connect prior to exams and end of year formalities.
Through talking to these students, it is clear they are happy to be back at JPC and to be able to ask their teachers and classmates questions "in real life" and get an answer back a bit quicker than in the online learning world.
As a leader within the Drexel House, I am very grateful to hear the noise of students and staff in the learning street and classrooms. I wish all students at JPC a happy return to school based learning and this experience has helped us all cherish the importance of being a strong community, not just in Drexel but throughout all of St John Paul II College.
