Dear Parents and Carers,
In our final week of school for 2020, we will be running an alternative program for the students.
Monday 7 December and Tuesday 8 December Periods 1 -3 – These will be our last normal classes for 2020.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will be undertaking various activities during ILT to finish the year.
On Wednesday afternoon we are asking all students to clean out their lockers and remove the locks. As there will be no safe storage, students are asked not to bring their iPads to school on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday we will be offering activities in the morning and in the afternoon, we will hold our annual “JPC has Talent” assembly.
Students may wear their PE uniform on Thursday but will be required to wear school uniform on Friday for the Christmas Liturgy and Awards ceremony.
The Christmas Liturgy and Awards Assembly for students in year 7-9 and Year 11 students begin at 9.30 am. Further details about this event will be sent early next week.
At the conclusion of the Assembly, students with a completed Qkr! form (permission forms will be available Monday 7 December) may leave the school at 11.30 am. There will be no canteen facilities on Friday. This includes breakfast. We ask that students do not go to Casey shops but make their way directly home. We will have staff patrolling the shops to ensure that JPC students are not in the area.
Semester reports will be e-mailed home to families on Friday of this week.
We look forward to working with our JPC students for a positive end of the year.

Year 10 Liturgy & Awards Ceremony
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we celebrated the Year 10 Liturgy and Awards Ceremony. This assembly recognises the achievements of the Year 10 cohort with the students receiving their Year 10 Certificate. The theme for the Liturgy was Shine Your Light -a very apt theme as we recognised students’ achievements through academic and growth mindset awards.
Students who have made significant contributions to the school community were also recognised in our perpetual awards and we would like to congratulate the following students for receiving these awards
- Addison Atkinson – Australian Catholic University (ACU) Growth Mindset Award
- Braidee Purton - Justice, Peace, Courage Award for Citizenship, Leadership and Community Service - sponsored by the Rotary Club of Gungahlin
- Aidan Monteleone – ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award
Sadly, a very small majority of students ruined their final day by graffiting toilets, throwing eggs both inside the school and at teacher’s cars, ripping off soap dispensers and spreading the soap all over the bathrooms. These actions are a sad reflection on these students and caused considerable distress to both our staff and to other students in the College.
The majority of the students, however, were exemplary in their behaviour and we very much look forward to continuing to work with these students, who uphold the values of JPC – Justice Peace and Courage.
The end of the year always brings about sad farewells. For those students who are journeying to different shores, we wish them all the best in their future endeavours and we hope they look back with fondness on the people who have changed their life because they spent time with them – whether that be friends, staff or other inspirational people they encountered.

Integrated Humanities - JPC Shark Tank Project
For their final challenge for this year in Integrated Humanities, Year 7 have been working collaboratively designing and developing a ‘pop-up’ business to pitch to their peers and the JPC Shark Tank Team (aka their teachers) Students have had a series of business checks to complete to assist them in researching and developing their business idea. They are then required to develop an iMovie presentation that discusses their business idea, how they would advertise it and also identify potential risks to their ‘pop-up’ business. Students will be voting on the four best pitches as semi-finalists and then the final winner will be decided by The Shark Tank Panel.
The winning group will be announced next week.

Year 9/10 Food Technology and Molecular Cookery
This week our Year 9/10 Food Technology students enjoyed the Science side of food – the way of the future - as an appropriate way to finish their food marketing unit. They made Tomato, Basil Bruschetta with Balsamic Pearls, followed by ‘Strawberries and cream’.
They loved it!

After a long year away from school sports JPC finally got a chance to get back on the field, participating in the Sydney Thunder Cricket Blast programme. Boasting four teams of enthusiastic boys, JPC had the highest turnout of any school in the region.
The boys played a round robin completion using the Cricket Blast rules. They got to test their cricketing skill against a number of other schools on what was a very hot November day. While the results did not go our way, what the students lacked in style and skill, they made up for in teamwork and participation.
A big thank you to all the lads who participated, Mr Mitchell for organising, and Mr Maloney for umpiring and supporting.

Year 10 Art made a banner to thank the JPC cleaners for all they work they do to keep the art rooms clean.
