Message from Nic Whatman, Assistant Principal
Linked to another dimension of mentoring explored in Term 1, as assessment tasks come in and exams are upon us it is a timely reminder for students to be setting up consistent revision habits. Having a plan of revision for upcoming exams or tasks is a great way to reduce angst going into the final weeks of the Semester.
Lastly we also saw the NSW vs QLD state of origin OZTAG game this week in which senior students and staff participated. It was great spectacle to see!!
Score NSW 8 - Qld 5, Photo's are available on Facebook.

Dear Parents and Carers,
This is an invitation for you to complete the Tell Them From Me survey.
The survey is one used by all Catholic schools in our system and focuses on the teaching and learning experience. Along with the questions that are used for all schools, we are able to add two questions that are specific to our JPC context.
We would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at JPC.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please note that the survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL sent to your email.
The survey closes next Friday, 9 June, at 4.30pm.
Thank you all for your support with this.

Year 11 2024 - Student Course Selections
This week, our current Y10 students received an email giving them access to the Course Selections portal in Web Preferences so that they may start to think about their courses and make their selections.
All current Y10 students are required to log in and record their preferences. If students are not planning on returning in 2024, they need to indicate this in the portal and complete the leaving form on the JPC website.
Students are to complete their preferences PRIOR to Week 10 interviews so they can be discussed with both parents, students and school Leaders. Subjects will be finalised for 2024 at these meetings.

The Senior Drama class successfully performed in Canberra Theatre’s “Act Up” Festival on Wednesday. The students begun the day with a successful tech run working with industry professionals and concluded with a performance, receiving exceptional praise from the Canberra Theatre crew and general public audience.
This term, students devised “The Clock, the Cuckoo and the Orange,” an Absurdist piece which explored the five stages of loss after an experience of loss. Bargaining, Denial, Depression and Anger’s struggle to connect becomes their barrier to reaching the final stage of acceptance. In this timeless place, time is everything. The orange is ticking, the cuckoo is clocking…
As always, JPC Arts were proudly represented by the performers. A sophisticated comedic piece was performed which the audience thoroughly enjoyed! Students relished in the experience of the festival, accepted the challenges of the day, and rose to the occasion to be a show standout.
A HUGE congratulations is awarded to our performers: Lachlan Harrop, Olivia Humphreys, Grace Henden and Mackenzie Lane.
A special thank you to the Stage Manager team of Leo Katic and Alex Rose. Toby Watson was a backstage support and as a team, allowed for their production elements to heighten their on-stage performance. Students were also supported by a buzzing group of fans created by family, friends and supportive 9/10 Drama class accompanied by Mrs Zoe Dowling.
Chookas and jazz hands to all students involved.

Maathai House Charity: Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve
Maathai House have selected Mullligans Flat Nature Reserve as our house charity. This week, during ILT our Year 8 students were visited by Dani from Mulligans Flat, Dani spoke to students about the Box-gum Grassy-woodland conservation area. Students learned about the vulnerable and endangered wildlife that call Mulligans Flat home and the efforts by staff and volunteers to create the ideal habitat for these protected species. Dani even brought a shingleback lizard for our students to handle.
Our house patron Wangari Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement which promoted reforestation and empowered local communities through tree planting initiatives. Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve is located in Forde and provides an opportunity for people in the community to engage with, respect and be inspired by Australia’s native woodlands. We think it’s a great fit for Maathai house and look forward to an ongoing relationship with them, we hope to inspire students to connect with nature and understand the vital role conservation plays in maintaining the environment for future generations.

Bill Turner Cup Boys Team Make SOUTHERN NSW / ACT Area Final
A big congratulations to our Bill Turner Cup Boys Team who this week defeated Harrison School, 2-1 in Round 3 to progress to the Southern NSW / ACT Area Final against Eden Marine in Eden in the coming weeks.
While the boys had a few keys players out and went down 1-0 early, they showed their fantastic qualities as a football team, forcing their way back for a 2-1 win, and with cracking goals and celebrations from Seth and Xavier Bonnett.
An excellent team performance all around.
Well done boys!

Year 7/8 ACT SCHOOLS VOLLEYBALL GALA DAY
On Wednesday the 24th of May the year 7 and 8 volleyball team went to Lyneham hockey centre to participate in the volleyball gala day.
The team included Xavier W, Tate W, Gabriel FT, Asher B, Aiden B, Samuel J, William D, Dylan P and Campbell H. With the best coach ever, Mr Hanna, we played 4 games and won 3 out of the 4 to make it to semi’s. We didn’t win the semi’s but gave it everything we had to come 4th overall out of 11 teams, a great success. After every game the team went outside to practice a bit more and to warm up. We played against Emmaus (win), Lyneham (loss), Gold Greek (win) and Belconnen (win). Lyneham who would go on to win the event. Everyone on the team enjoyed the experience and had lots of fun and are thankful for the experience.

Boys Volleyball
Last week JPC entered 3 teams in the North side Boys Volleyball gala day. We had one Year 7/8 team and two Year 9/10 teams, the boys had been training together in the gym at lunchtimes for two weeks prior to the tournament. It was a freezing cold morning at the Lyneham Volleyball centre but the training really paid off with all teams getting wins on the day. The 7/8 boys, coached by Mr Hanna, were the most successful team reaching the semi-finals. Each student played with great spirit and represented the College well, they should be proud of their efforts.
