The Australian Science Olympiads
The Australian Science Olympiads are part of a national enrichment program for secondary science students. They provide rewarding opportunities for students to extend themselves way beyond school science through challenging exams, stimulating extensions and enrichment programs and international competitions. Each student will receive local, national and international recognition of your academic achievement, with opportunities for national and international travel during and after the Science Olympiads. At JPC we had a number of Year 11 students competing in the Senior Science Olympiad for Physics, Biology and Chemistry.
Well done to Darshan Rajinikanth, Eugene Subedi, Prashamsa Koirala, Faria Mustafa, Derick Tongu and Tobias Devilla Cherukuru for their efforts in sitting these examinations, with current results to be published soon.
Australian Mathematics Competition
One of the largest annual events on the Australian education calendar, the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was the first competition of its kind in Australia and is now one of the largest of its type in the world, with more than 30 countries participate each year. The competition has an emphasis on problem solving, a valuable life skill, and the questions are designed to be fun for the student. A prestigious AMC medal is awarded to students with an outstanding result, both within a State or country and overall in the competition. All Australian prize winners in 2021 will be given free entry to the 2021 Australian Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad.
This year we had a number of our top Year 8 and 10 students opt in to challenge themselves in the junior and intermediate examinations during week 4 of term 3. This was a great opportunity for our students to push themselves, with results also to be published soon.
