Year 9 & 10 Outdoor Education - Broulee

During Week 11, the Year 9/10 Outdoor Education students headed off to Broulee, NSW for their much awaited Beach Camp. During the camp, students participated in Surfing, Kayaking, Snorkelling and Stand Up Paddle Boarding, and were responsible for their own cooking, cleaning, camp gear and set-up within their camp group. The students and teachers were blessed with excellent weather and overall, it was very rewarding to see many students participate in activities they had never done before and step outside of their comfort zones. A massive thank you to Mr Thomas, Mr Maloney and Mrs Jewell for their help during the camp.

Below are some comments from the student’s experiences!

Carlia Zedde
PE/Outdoor Education Teacher

“I found surfing fun because when you catch a wave and you surf it to shore it feels so good. The camp was so much fun and I loved it because I was there with all my friends and it will be a memory I will never have again so I’m glad that I went.”

Jacob Murta (Year 10 Student)

“I learnt very quickly that despite the fact I had never surfed once in my life, I was very good at it and was catching waves easily. At one point I was catching waves on an angle rather than going straight on (like the pros do!). Overall, surfing was really fun and probably the most memorable experience for me on Outdoor Education camp.”

Ethan Aleksandrowicz (Year 9 Student)

“Seeing the fish, stingrays, anemones and seaweed underwater was a highlight of my time because I would not usually have seen this sea life with my family or by myself. Another part of snorkelling that still amazes me now would have been diving down under the surface, holding your breath and being up close and personal with the seaweed, then swimming up and blowing out the water. I loved it.”

Isla Naude (Year 10 Student)

“I enjoyed the Stand Up Paddle Boarding activity the most because it was something I could do confidently and something I found fun. Although there were some challenges, such as paddling against the tide which made it more difficult, it was all around fun and definitely my favourite experience of the camp. I would personally recommend it to others, and I look forward to hopefully doing it again in the near future.”
