Message from Assistant Principal - Learning

Last week our Religious Education staff took 50 students to the ‘Shine’ Youth Ministry conference at Merici College. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to meet other Christian Leaders and to grow in knowledge and understanding of Youth Ministry skills. Events like these are important in allowing our students a voice in the Church, which is particularly relevant as we head towards an Archdiocesan Assembly in October.

Looking ahead to next year, we are excited to continue embedding our Catalyst high-impact teaching practices, particularly around the Catholic Education goal, that everyone is a competent reader. To support this goal, one of the most anticipated developments will be the opening of our new library in 2025.

We are grateful to everyone who has generously donated books to support this initiative. The library is set to become a vibrant hub for learning and engagement, with several programs already in the planning stages.

These include:

  • A Whole School Reading Program: Integrated into English classes, this program aims to foster a love of reading across all year levels.
  • Study Skills Workshops: Tailored to equip students with effective research and writing techniques.
  • A Supervised Senior Study Space: Providing a focused and supportive environment for senior students to work on their research and writing projects.
  • Parent Book Club and Borrowing: Offering opportunities for parents to engage with our literary resources and participate in community discussions.

In addition, for 2025 we look forward to launching our new Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. The current plan is that parents will have their own login and be able to access the LMS either through Compass or an app on their smartphone. Every parent will have access to student assessment results as well as class and homework. This will be launched in January.

We are excited about the possibilities the new library and LMS will bring to strengthen the link between home and school and look forward to sharing more details as these plans unfold. Thank you once again to our community for the ongoing support and involvement.
